I too love to share. When we go to Happy Valley, we always stop off at the little grocery store near the house; I love the California fresh veggies & local olive oil they always have there…and I usually pick up a couple batches of fresh basal to take home and make garlic pesto. I then take a container of pesto across the street to my neighbor who takes care of my birds while we are at HV…nice little cycle. Patrice
okay then, recipe for your garlic pesto? Tam
Take one food processorTake a bunch of basal (cut off stems and cram the processor full)Take a bunch of fresh garlicTake ½ cup of any type of finely grated cheese of choiceTake ¼ cup of fresh pine nutsLittle salt & pepperTurn on processor and pour in extra, extra V O Oil until you get the consistence you want from your pesto (the key is to get it as creamy as possible) Take ¼ cup and put it in the rice cooker while you are making rice…Take a cup to your neighbor. Patrice
Just a side note…the cheese must be a hard cheese. Patrice
YUM!! you don't toast the pine nuts? Tam
Sure, it’s your pesto, do what ever you wish!! Patrice

Sharing
Great idea, Ben! I added two people to the thread. Sharing information is one of the positive things with today’s technology. And so SHARING is my first tip/contribution. Not just sharing ideas and recipes, but sharing food and produce. We have eggs we share with others, they in turn share things they have: excess lettuce, a basket of apples. My sister, Brenda, will cook a big batch of something and then share the excess with us. When I have excess I, in turn, take it over to her. Sometimes I do it purposely, if I get a good deal on ground meats I buy a little extra and make two meatloafs so I can give one to her. Or if I find a good deal that is more than we can eat I still get it and share it with Ben and Alison! Produce will be coming into season strong soon so it will be a good time for sharing…zucchini, tomatoes, apples. I always say YES when someone asks if I could use something they have extra of, if I can’t eat it right away I freeze it or can it. And of course, every person who loves to cook knows the best food is the fresh food! This sharing not only saves everyone money, it broadens your thinking and when it is cooked food from someone else, gives you new recipe ideas! So, make an extra large pot of soup and offer it up to someone you know who lives close and would be open to sharing the next time they make a batch! Tammy
Welcome
So I had a night at the bar with my co-worker Cynthia and our conversation was all about food and eating healthy. I got to thinking that in this day and age perhaps it would be nice to trade secrets or recipes or knowledge or whatever about food cooking, storing, growing, buying, anything about food. So these few people are the start to a food “thread” as it were called. To participate please just hit “reply all” to partake in conversation. You can just listen if you wish or actually contribute to the conversation. If you wish to change the email address that if on the thread you can do that to by copy and paste the addresses into your other account and reply all from there. If you want to add a person or persons to this thread please do so. It is always good to get conversation going about how to eat healthy or grow healthy or recipes involving either. I know I have friends that I have not included here because I don’t have their emails on this account and will probably switch accounts. If you need help changing the “thread” account then you can contact me directly and I will help you do that. Hope you all think this is a good idea and hope to hear from all of you.
